Weekly Meal Plan: 2/27-3/4

Last week’s meal plan (and how it went):
  • Monday
    • Lunch: Potstickers – Done!
    • Dinner: Pork spare ribs, bok choy, pea sprouts and rice – Done! Except I used corn instead of pea sprouts because I bought extra bok choy this week since it was on sale (and didn’t buy pea sprouts).
  • Tuesday
    • Lunch: Chinese cafe leftovers – Nope. I brought it but work provided breakfast today so I was too full to eat lunch – so I just ate a little more of the free breakfast instead.
    • Dinner: Slow cooked pork butt, bean sprouts, corn and rice – Done! Except I used pork belly instead of pork butt because it was on sale and they didn’t have anymore pork butt anyway. I also used bok choy and a mix of corn and snap peas.
  • Wednesday
    • Lunch: Leftover pizza – Nope. Chinese cafe leftovers I was supposed to eat on Tuesday.
    • Dinner: Pork chops, gai lan, and rice – Nope. We still had leftover pork belly so I made the same dinner as Tuesday night. I’m proud of this because I was so close to going to In ‘N Out – my guilty pleasure.
  • Thursday
    • Lunch: Leftover Tuesday night dinner – Nope. Brought the leftover pizza.
    • Dinner: Tilapia, bok choy, pea sprouts and rice – Nope. Had In N Out. Whoops.
  • Friday
    • Lunch: Leftover Thursday night dinner – Nope. Leftover Wednesday night dinner.
    • Dinner: Potstickers – Done!
  • Saturday
    • Lunch: New York style pizza
    • Dinner: Garlic shrimp pasta at Grand Lux in Vegas
  • Sunday
    • Lunch: Patty melt, chili cheese fries and a shake
    • Dinner:  Mozzarella sticks from Jack in the Box (quick snack when we were driving home because we had a late lunch)
Cost of groceries for the week: $32
Cost of eating out for the week: $52

We had a spur of the moment Vegas trip so Saturday and Sunday were very unplanned. However, G paid for my dinner Saturday night which cut down costs considerably – although I paid for our other 3 meals. Still, for Vegas, this is very little money to spend on food. I’m happy with this!

This week’s meal plan:
  • Monday
    • Lunch: Subway
    • Dinner: Pork chops, bean sprouts, bok choy and rice
  • Tuesday
    • Lunch: Subway
    • Dinner: Slow cooked pork butt, corn with snap peas, pea sprouts and rice
  • Wednesday
    • Lunch: Leftover Tuesday night dinner
    • Dinner: Ground pork, green beans, bok choy and rice.
  • Thursday
    • Lunch: Leftover Wednesday night dinner
    • Dinner: Fish (whichever kind I have in my fridge), bok choy, pea sprouts and rice.
  • Friday
    • Lunch: Leftover Thursday night dinner
    • Dinner: Potstickers or fast food – another road trip coming up!
Grocery list:
  •  Pork butt (1 piece)
  • Pea sprouts (1 bag)
  • Ground pork (2 pounds)
  • Green beans (1 bag)
  • Bok choy (1 bundle)
  • Green onion (1 bundle)
  • Sweet Thai chili sauce (I use this as dipping sauce for the potstickers)

I have leftover groceries from last week (hence Monday’s dinner) so I shouldn’t need to buy that much. Last week was more expensive because I bought the ingredients for the breakfast burritos which are actually working out really well. I’m hoping not to spend that much on food this week.

Weekly Meal Plan: 2/20-2/26

Last week’s meal plan (and how it went):
  • Monday
    • Lunch: Leftover pasta from Sunday dinner. Done!
    • Dinner: Pork chops, bean sprouts, bok choy and rice (enough for Tuesday lunch) Nope. Roommate brought us food for Tuesday’s lunch so I decided to make something that wouldn’t give us leftovers. I made Wednesday night dinner instead: tilapia, bok choy, pea sprouts and rice.
  • Tuesday
    • Lunch: Leftover Monday dinner. Nope. Eating the Pad See Ew that roommate brought us. Thanks roomie!
    • Dinner: Special dinner because it’s Valentine’s Day – not sure what yet. I’ll see what looks good at the supermarket today. I’m thinking some sort of steak, corn and…something. Nope. Decided to postpone V-day dinner until Wednesday night due to some gaming we do on Tuesday nights. Made Monday night’s meal: Pork chops, bean sprouts, pea sprouts and rice (needed all fast veggies because I only had about 15 minutes to cook because of gaming night).
  • Wednesday
    • Lunch: It’s a coworker’s birthday so we’re ordering from a Japanese restaurant.  Done! Had Katsudon bowl.
    • Dinner: Breaded tilapia filets, bok choy, corn and rice (vegetables may vary depending what is still good in my fridge) Nope. We were going to cook vday dinner but decided to splurge instead. We went to The Boiling Crab (it was our first time there) and it was delicious!
  • Thursday
    • Lunch: Subway (6″). I need to finish the fish on Wednesday (before it goes bad) and it’s not enough for lunch. Nope. Had leftovers from Tuesday night dinner: pork chops, bean sprouts, pea sprouts and rice. (I purposely made enough on Tuesday night for our dinner and lunches.
    • Dinner: Ground pork, bok choy and corn (enough for G’s lunch on Friday). Done!
  • Friday
    • Lunch: Subway (6″ – I always get a footlong and then split it between two days).  Nope. Had leftover from Wednesday’s lunch (Katsudon bowl) + some corn & bok choy from Thursday night.
    • Dinner: Eating out! I don’t think I’ll be able to resist at this point. Done! Had pork chop with spicy salt, mushroom/tofu dish, and sweet and sour pork spare ribs from Chinese cafe.
  • Saturday
    • Lunch: Visited my mom and she made me food! Fried rice mmm.
    • Dinner: Prosciutto pizza (ate out)
  • Sunday
    • Lunch: G made steak, eggs and hash browns. Delicious!
    • Dinner: Sushi mmmm. Also had green tea tempura ice cream for dessert.
Cost of groceries for the week: $30 (this was more expensive than usual because I bought 2 ribeye steaks)
Cost of eating out for the week: $48

I’m apparently not great at following through on my meal plan – but I did manage to bring lunch every day except for Wednesday! That’s a success to me.

Weekly Meal Plan – 2/13-2/17

In an effort to eat out less and cook more (which leads to saving money), I’ll be doing a Weekly Meal Plan – I do the grocery shopping and cooking most of the time for G and me and we try to bring lunch to work every day. I’m only going to plan Monday – Friday to start because it’s tough…so here we go:

  • Monday
    • Lunch: Leftover pasta from Sunday dinner.
    • Dinner: Pork chops, bean sprouts, bok choy and rice (enough for Tuesday lunch)
  • Tuesday
    • Lunch: Leftover Monday dinner.
    • Dinner: Special dinner because it’s Valentine’s Day – not sure what yet. I’ll see what looks good at the supermarket today. I’m thinking some sort of steak, corn and…something.
  • Wednesday
    • Lunch: It’s a coworker’s birthday so we’re ordering from a Japanese restaurant.
    • Dinner: Breaded tilapia filets, bok choy, corn and rice (vegetables may vary depending what is still good in my frige)
  • Thursday
    • Lunch: Subway (6″). I need to finish the fish on Wednesday (before it goes bad) and it’s not enough for lunch.
    • Dinner: Ground pork, gai lan and pea sprouts (enough for G’s lunch on Friday).
  • Friday
    • Lunch: Subway (6″ – I always get a footlong and then split it between two days).
    • Dinner: Eating out! I don’t think I’ll be able to resist at this point.

Grocery list:

  • Pork chops (4)
  • Bean sprouts (enough for 4 meals)
  • Bok choy (1 bundle)
  • Pea sprouts (1 bag)
  • Ground pork (1 lb)
  • Something nice for dinner on Tuesday

Total cost in lunch this week (not including groceries): ~$15

Not bad but I’d really like to avoid the Subway if I can (saving money there), especially because that means G will have to buy lunch as well. We’ll see if I can pull something out to skip that.
